Faith and spirituality
Solas Festival is strongly rooted in the Christian tradition. Our constitution stipulates that the festival is about the coming together of art, justice and faith.
Whilst we welcome people of all faiths and none, and make no assumptions about who is coming, every year we offer programme content which will appeal to those interested in faith and spirituality. This year is no exception. Indeed, with support from the Anchor Foundation and other partners, we have been able to bolster what we offer, all under this year’s theme of ‘Human Touch’.
Dialogue - once again, our friends from the Methodist Church will run a sumptuous venue - the Hope and Anchor - where they will host some stimulating debates.
Prayer - the Methodists will also, in partnership with the Iona community, be preparing prayer and meditation stations around the lovely Errol grounds for those who like their festival interspersed with quiet and the beauty of nature.
Meditation - we shall as ever be running our hugely successful Rest and be Thankful wellbeing strand. Alongside many forms of physical and spiritual wellbeing, there will be moments of guided meditation from Christian and other traditions.
Worship - building on the success of last year, we have again commissioned a leader to design and deliver a creative form of Christian worship on Sunday morning - what could be better than coming together in that way in the sunshine of rural Perthshire?
Lament - we will be holding a special strand ‘A Human Touch for the Peoples of Palestine’. In addition to opportunities to pray for peace, we shall be hearing from Muslim, Jewish and Christian friends as we lament the terrible events of recent months, in addition to exploring ways we can support the work of Medical Aid for Palestine.
Current affairs - as ever, there will be informed discussions about key issues of the day with opportunities to hear from experts in the field and to input and hear a faith perspective. This year we will be addressing in particular assisted dying, AI and the ongoing climate challenge.
Fellowship - perhaps most importantly, Solas is always a lovely opportunity for enjoying creativity and good company. The conversations and relaxed fun in the margins can be as important as anything else. Many people love to come as groups of friends (groups of five or more get 20% off - see the tickets link below). If you as a church or community group want help to come - for example with transport costs- then do get in touch about possible funding opportunities.
Solas Festival: June 14-16, 2024. Book tickets.
